A sense of security through sound – How white noise connects mother and baby

Sometimes it's the soft rushing sound that touches us most deeply. Many pregnant women know that moment when everything is supposed to become still – but their thoughts keep racing. Then white noise can act like a gentle touch from within: steady, calming, familiar.

In the womb, the baby lives in a world full of sounds. From the 20th week of pregnancy, it hears the mother's heartbeat, the flow of blood, and the soft hiss of her breath—a soundscape that provides security. This natural sound, like a distant ocean, is every human being's first lullaby. When expectant mothers use white noise today, it reminds the baby of precisely this familiar environment. A study from the University of Würzburg shows that babies react particularly strongly to such broadband sounds: they feel calm, safe, and secure within them.

White noise can also be a soothing ritual for mothers. It helps them breathe more deeply, release tension, and sleep better. The monotonous white noise blocks out distracting ambient sounds and creates space for inner peace – both mentally and emotionally.

Even during pregnancy, our little Lenabies can lovingly accompany expectant mothers. The Lenabo Smart Speaker plays various white noises – such as gentle ocean waves, a steady heartbeat, or the soft whisper of the wind. These sounds create a sense of security and strengthen the invisible bond between mother and baby long before birth. In this way, every moment becomes a small ritual of closeness – carried by warmth, sound, and love.
